Govt, agitators, international human rights bodies informed of Nepal humanitarian crisis

KATHMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission on Sunday drew the attention of the government, agitating parties and international human rights organisations toward aggravating humanitarian crisis in Nepal.

The national human rights watchdog published a paper today about the country's human rights situation and sent its copies to concerned government agencies, protesting parties and international human rights organisations including Asia Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions (APF), International Coordinating Committee for National Human Rights Institutions (ICC), and Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).

According to the Commission's Acting Secretary Bed Prasad Bhattarai, the paper highlights existing humanitarian crisis and violations of right to life, child rights, right to health, right to education among others due to obstructions in supplies at Indo-Nepal border points.

The Commission has reiterated the the current situation has deprived members of the general public of their human rights as guaranteed in the Constitution as well as international human rights documents, of which Nepal was a signatory.

The constitutional human rights body has called all stakeholders to pay attention to the situation and resolve it at the earliest.
