Home Minister tells police to remove road obstructions, tighten highway security

JANAKPURDHAM: Home Minister Shakti Bahadur Basnet has directed security agencies to tighten the security along highways and Dasgaja area and clear road obstructions in Tarai.

At a meeting organised at Bardibas-based Armed Police Force Chinnamasta Battalion today, Home Minister Basnet discussed the security situation, challenges and strategies to be adopted in eight districts of mid-Tarai region in coming days.

According to security personnel, current issues of Tarai unrest, obstruction in Dasgaja and highway areas and integrated security plans to stop activities against the Constitution were discussed in the meeting.

Basnet also directed the APF to implement the integrated security plans to clear the border obstruction and control domestic weapons, among others.

The district-wise reports on problems faced by Nepalis due to the unofficial blockade and ongoing Tarai agitation were also presented in the meeting.

According to a source, the districts of mid-Tarai have been divided into three categories according to security sensitivity and APF and Nepal Police personnel have been deployed to make the highway linking Kathmandu and Tarai unobstructed.

Home Secretary Narayan Gopal malegu, IGP Upendra Kant Aryal,  APF IGP Kosh Raj Onta, among others were also present in the meeting.
