Indefinite strike for intact far-west

The intact far-west agitation mobilisation committee today announced an indefinite general strike in Kailali and Kanchanpur districts from tomorrow.

The committee, issued a statement today informing about the indefinite general strike against unity-foiling statements given by leaders of Madhes-centred parties at a time when folks in the far-west folks maintaining restraint with regard to the federal set-up with boundaries.

A statement issued by Gopal Deuba, coordinator of the committee, states that they condemned the various expressions of Madhes-based party leaders, which were against the unity and harmony of folks in the region.

Stating that the leaders were making secessionist remarks, the committee urged the Tharuhat alliance not to invite any Madhes-based party leaders in Kailali.

“If anybody takes our plea as our weakness, the same party leaders will have to take the responsibility of all untoward consequences caused by our protest,” warned the statement.

Tharuhat Tharuwan Struggle Committee is organising a mass gathering demanding autonomous Tharuhat province, including Kailali and Kanchanpur in Dhangadi tomorrow. Central leaders of different parties are supposed to address the mass.

The statement said that Madhesi leaders, including Upendra Yadav, Rajendra Mahato and Amaresh Singh suggested that the Tharu community raise arms against the migrant hill population in the plains at a mass gathering of the Tharuhat community in Tikapur a few days ago.

“We have no option but to resort to protest to strengthen social unity of the far-western region, avert violent activities and establish an intact far-west region,” reads the statement.
