Indian official in Birgunj to receive body of youth killed in police firing

BIRGUNJ: District Magistrate of East Champaran district of Bihar, Jitendra Srivastava, began talks with Nepali authorities to receive the body of an Indian youth, who was killed in police firing in Birgunj of Parsa today.

It has been learned that the Indian side is planning to take the body at the earliest.

Ashish Kumar Ram (approx. 25), an Indian citizen from Raxaul, who was currently residing in Birgunj Sub-Metropolitan City-11, was killed as police opened fire on protesters to control the situation, in Birgunj today.

Following the incident, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs had expressed concerns over the incident, commenting, “Issues facing Nepal are political in nature and cannot be resolved by force. Causes underlying the present state of confrontation need to addressed by the Government of Nepal credibly and effectively.”
