Kavre DDRC adopts diasater preparedness

Kavre, July 12

District Disaster Rescue Committee, Kavre, has managed relief materials for 100 families of the district, keeping in mind the possible natural disasters during the monsoon.

Sources at the committee said they had readied food and other essentials in case of any untoward natural calamity as the land and other infrastructure in the district had become vulnerable due to last year’s devastating earthquake.

Kavre Chief District Officer as well as coordinator of the committee Bal Krishna Panthi said Kavre Chamber of Commerce and Industry had collected food packets. “Each food packet contains three kg beaten rice, five packets noodles, five packets biscuits and one kg namakeen (a dry snack),’’ he informed.

Similarly, Nepal Red Cross Society, Kavre, has also managed shelters for victims in case of disaster. Sources at Kavre Red Cross informed that one tent for each family, 1,000 blankets and at least 200 sets of food packets, among others, had been readied.

The relief materials were managed through the district disaster rescue fund, Nepali Army, Police and other helping organisations. If the collected resources fall insufficient, the District Development Committee will buy the required materials.

Likewise, District Police Office and Kavre Chambers of Commerce and Industry have directed the District Health Office to keep heavy equipment to clear the roads, health kits and ambulances, among others, on standby.

Kavre Local Administration has urged the locals to consider safety measures as the district is at high risk of natural disasters.

It had issued a circular to all the district dwellers to adopt safety measures after the flood in Sindhupalchowk-based Bhotekoshi swept away Liping and Tatopani bazaar a week ago.
