EVEREST BASE CAMP, MAY 12

Photojournalist Purnima Shrestha among other climbers successfully scaled Mt Everest this morning.

According to Pemba Sherpa, Managing Director at 8K Expeditions, Purnima along with Phura Tenzin Sherpa stood atop the world's highest peak at around 6:40am.

This is Purnima's second ascent of Mt Everest. Earlier, she climbed the mountain in 2018.

"If everything goes as per the plan, Purnima aims to scale Everest thrice this season," Sherpa said, she was on a mission to set a world record in Everest climbing.

Born in Gorkha, Purnima scaled K2 last year completing her 8th mountain above 8,000m.

She has set a record as Nepal's fastest woman to climb most 8,000m peaks. "She scaled Everest, K2, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, Makalu, Manaslu, Dhaulagiri, and Annapurna," Sherpa said.

Mingma G, Managing Director at Imagine Nepal Treks, reported from the South Col that 19 climbers from his company successfully scaled Mt Everest this morning.

According to him, this diverse ensemble included Kington Timothy Miles from the United Kingdom, Long Jason Daniel from Australia, Maria-Alexandra from Romania, Guan Jing, Chen Siya, Qi Wet, Jin Haihang, Su Jiangfa, and Hong Danhong from China and sherpas, Fur Gyaljen Sherpa, Finjo Dorjee Sherpa, Lakpa Sherpa, Kami Sherpa, Pasang Ngima Sherpa, Pama Chhiri Sherpa, Angdu Sherpa, Dawa Tenzing Sherpa, and Jangbu Sherpa.
