Mahato threatens decisive stir in Madhes

Rautahat, March 12

Sadbhawa Party chairperson Rajendra Mahato today warned of another phase of agitation from mid-April if the government continued to ignore their demands.

Speaking at a press conference organised by the party in Rautahat district headquarters Gaur today, Mahato said, “The United Democratic Madhesi Front has recently submitted a seven-point memorandum to the government regarding our demands and this is the last chance for the government to act on them. If the government fails, we will launch a more intense and decisive struggle.”

He said the Madhes agitation had only changed its form. “The Madhes movement has only changed its form in view of the sufferings of the people. It has not failed. We will continue our agitation until our demands are met,” he said.

“As we have learnt many lessons from the past, we will launch fresh agitation in a decisive way,” he said, adding that the two amendments to the new constitution had failed to address their demands. “The amendments are meaningless as they do not address our demands. This is also one of the reasons why we have been forced to continue our agitation,” he remarked.

He also took the opportunity to criticise PM KP Oli’s for his indifference to the concerns of the Madhesi parties. “While I was receiving treatment in India, it was he who called me to Kathmandu. But once I went to the capital, he had nothing new to offer.”
