Mechanism to be formed by tomorrow

Kathmandu, February 12

The joint meeting of the task forces of the three major parties and agitating Untied Democratic Madhesi Front today decided to form a political mechanism to address the concerns of the front regarding the provincial demarcation within three days.

The decision was taken at the joint meeting of top leaders of the three major parties at the official residence of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today.

The meeting, called by Prime Minister Oli, decided to form the mechanism before the PM’s India visit. PM Oli is embarking on a six-day official visit to India beginning February 19.

This is the first meeting of the task force summoned by PM Oli after the UDMF formally announced the lifting of its the four-and-half-month border blockade, general shutdown and obstructions at government offices.

Following the meeting, Nepali Congress leader and member of the task force of major parties Mahesh Acharya said the meeting agreed to form the mechanism by Sunday and to get it endorsed by the Legislature-Parliament before Prime Minister Oli leaves for India.

Sadbhawana Party Co-Chairman and member of the UDMF task force Laxman Lal Karna said the joint task force had asked the prime minister to do the needful to address the concerns of UDMF before leaving for India.

Another member of the UDMF task force, Ram Naresh Raya, said both the task forces and the top leaders of the major parties had agreed to revive their stalled talk from where it was halted.

PM to be in India for six days

KATHMANDU: Ministry of Foreign Affairs today said Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s upcoming visit to India would be of six days, starting February 19.

Earlier, it was reported that the PM would be in India for five days.

According to MoFA, Prime Minister Oli would hold official talks with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi on “matters of mutual interests”.

He will call on India’s President Pranab Mukherjee and Vice-president Mohammad Hamid Ansari, as well as meet ministers of the Indian government and leaders of political parties.

PM Oli will also interact with the business community and address the Indian Council of World Affairs while in Delhi.
