No let-up in agitation till demands are met: Thakur

Birgunj, February 3

Tarai Madhes Democratic Party Chairperson Mahantha Thakur today clarified that the ongoing agitation won’t stop until their demands are addressed by the government.

Speaking at a press conference organised by Madhesi Journalists’ Society Parsa at Hotel Makalu today, Thakur accused the major political parties of buying time in the name of talks.

“In fact, the government and big parties are holding a cheap show with a series of dialogues. while making all-out attempt to label our struggle for rights as racial incongruity and to disgrace it. This is very unfortunate,” Thakur argued.

“Our struggle will continue until the government and parties come up with a clear concept on the demand for change in state demarcation,” the TMDP chief said, adding, “Fresh agitation programmes will be made public through the next meeting of the front (United Democratic Madhesi Front).” TMDP is a constituent of the front.

He also stressed on cooperation with various other Madhes-based political parties and organisations to intensify the ongoing agitation and make it fruitful. Thakur, however, rued that the struggle for the rights of Madhesis was often being linked with India.

“It’s natural for anyone to meet their well-wishers in difficult times and that’s the sole reason why Madhesi leaders went to meet Indian leaders in Bihar. There is no ulterior motive,” he said.
