Protesting cadres set truck on fire, clash with police in Parsa

BIRGUNJ: Cadres affiliated to the United Democratic Madhesi Front have set a truck on fire for defying the bandh on Saturday at Adarsha Nagar, Birgunj Sub-Metropolitan City-13 of Parsa.

The truck (Na 4 Kha 635), loaded with betel nuts, was parked in front of the godown of a local betel nut trader Manish Agrawal.

The front part of the truck has been fully damaged by the fire.

However, timely intervention of the fire brigade of the Birgunj Sub-metropolitan City brought the situation under control.

Locals were seen furious towards police for reaching the site after an hour.

The group of cadres had reacted after receiving information that some local transport entrepreneurs defied the bandh and continued supplying the essentials to various parts of the country.

Meanwhile, a clash erupted between the agitators and security personnel after the latter were trying to supply two trucks of rice to Kathmandu from the Ganesh Food Industry in Bahuarbabhata, Parsa.

Police, however, had escorted those trucks safely to their destination.

Police had to openĀ at least a dozen round of fire in the air and use five shells of tear gas to bring the situation under control.
