Six killed in police firing in Janakpur, Jaleshwor

Janakpurdham, September 11

Six persons were killed in Dhanusha’s Janakpur and Mahottari’s Jaleshwor when police opened fire at the agitators for defying curfew today.

Three persons were killed and 17 injured in police firing in Janakpur. District Police Office, Dhanusha, identified the deceased as Sadbhawana Party member

Sanjay Chaudhary, 42, Dilip Yadav, 13, from Dhanusha Sinurjoda and Niku Yadav,18, from Gopalpur VDC. Up to 50 persons were injured when the police resorted to baton charge. Seven police personnel were injured in clashes with agitators and are being treated at Janakpur Zonal Hospital.

Dhanusha DAO imposed an indefinite curfew in Janakpur municipal area at 6:00am to foil a mass rally organised by United Democratic Madhesi Front. But the agitators defied curfew and clashed with police at Janakpur’s Mills Area, Kadamchowk, Pulchowk and Pidari Chowk.

Rastriya Prajatantra Party cadre Ramshila Devi Mandal from Hattilet, Red Cross member Ganesh Chaudhary and Birendra Bichha were killed in police firing in Jaleshwor. Ramshila and Ganesh died on the spot while Bichha breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Norvic Hospital, Kathmandu, according to District Police Office, Mahottari. Six persons were injured in police firing and are being treated at District Hospital, Jaleshwor.

In Siraha, four persons were injured in police firing in Golbazaar. Protesters torched District Land Reform Office and a truck.
