Statute can’t please all communities, says Oli

KATHMANDU, August 12

Chairman of CPN-UML K P Sharma Oli on Wednesday said the constitution can’t incorporate the interests of all the communities as it was a document of collective feelings.

At a time when the demarcation of the six-Pradesh model of federalism is creating tensions in different parts of the country, the CPN-UML on Wednesday organised a political training for its CA members representing different ethnic communities and the Madhes. Chairman Oli trained them about the party’s policies.

Oli directed UML Constituent Assembly members to engage themselves in dousing the fire in different parts of the country that had started after the six-Pradesh model of federalism was brought.

Addressing the annoyed CA members of the party on the premises of the CA building on Wednesday, Oli told the CA members not to take side of people who were fuelling the struggle against the demarcation of Pradeshes, but and instead try to douse the fire.

UML CA members from indigenous communities and Madhes have been expressing serious exception to the demarcation of the Pradeshes.

Citing the example of Rwanda, Oli said Nepal should learn from the example of Rwanda where one million people were killed in 10 months in communal violence. He said UML was not a regional or ethnicity-based party but a national party that incorporated the feelings of all communities.

Talking to a delegation of Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) at the parliamentary party office in Singha Durbar, Oli said minor changes were possible in the demarcations if they was justifiable and logical. He said things won’t be resolved through emotions, excitement and violence. “All the issues raised from all corners and sections of society were genuine but they all cannot be incorporated in the constitution,” he said.

Addressing a book launch here on Wednesday, Oli said the issues raised in the ongoing struggle would be incorporated on the basis of logic and necessity.
