Statute process will continue: Nembang

POKHARA: Constituent Assembly Chairman Subas Chandra Nembang today said that the recent state order by the Supreme Court did not obstruct the constitution-drafting process.

Speaking at a symposium organised to discuss ways to revive the tourism sector in Pokhara today, “Leaders have created a conducive atmosphere for drafting the constitution.”

Nembang said he was ‘shocked’ to hear the apex court order. “I am yet to receive the full text of the order, but I was shocked to hear that,” said Nembang.

The Supreme Court on Friday had issued a stay order against the 16-point agreement reached among four political parties — the Nepali Congress, the CPN-UML, the Unified CPN-Maoist and Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum-Democratic. Nembang, however, said the court order would not make any difference in the constitution-drafting process.

“The Constitution Drafting Committee will continue to do its work, aiming at delivering the statute at the earliest,” said Nembang.

“We are eying at delivering the statute at any cost by adopting the achievements of the first Constituent Assembly. Though the parties have various political and ideological differences, they unite in the time of crisis,” said Nembang, adding, “It is a great achievement that the major parties have come closer for necessary negotiations, which is very positive.”
