Statute still not acceptable to us, says Mahato

Birgunj, October 15

Amidst speculations that Madhesi parties have accepted the constitution indirectly by participating in voting for the prime ministerial candidate, Sadbhawana Party Chairperson Rajendra Mahato today ruled out any chance of accepting the statute.

Speaking at a press conference in Miteri Bridge on the Birgunj-Raxaul border today, Mahato argued that the constitution that falls short of ensuring the rights of the Madhesi and minority communities will never be acceptable to the agitating parties.

“There are speculations whether some Madhes-based parties’ decision to participate in the voting meant they had quit

the agitation, but let me make it clear from here that our agitation goes on until the concerns of the Madhes are addressed,” he said.

Further, Mahato said, “By participating in the voting process, our intention was to break the unholy syndicate of the three parties and prevent Oli from landing the prime ministerial post, that’s all.”

UDMF talks committee coordinator Laxmanlal Karna said the front was ready to sit for talks if the government was serious. “We don’t want to shun dialogue, but this government should form a powerful talks committee and stop the drama of dialogue,” said the leader, who was participating in the sit-in at the border today.
