Surkhet district in need of 200 additional cops

Local levels are in need of 200 additional police personnel in Surkhet.

District Police Office, Surkhet, said they required 200 additional personnel to establish police posts in each and every local body. The district has a quota of 514 police personnel.

Superintendent of Police Uma Prasad Chaturbedi said they were facing difficulties maintaining law and order due to lack of human resources.

“As per the federal structure, we require at least 200 additional police personnel,” SP Chaturwedi said. He said his office had demanded additional personnel from the provincial police office .

According to Chaturbedi, 75 police personnel led by inspector will be deployed in each rural municipality and 100 police personnel led by DSP in each municipality.  Surkhet has four rural municipalities and five municipalities.

SP Chaturbedi said that none of the people’’s representatives at the local levels had sought security. The district is home to three ‘’A’’ grade Area Police Office, two ‘’B’’ grade Area Police Office, 15 police posts and nine temporary police posts.

Of the allotted quota, 36 posts are vacant. Similarly, around 80 police personnel are on leave.
