2 injured in police firing in Kabir Chowk of Rautahat

RAUTAHAT: Two persons were injured when police opened fire on protesters in Kabir Chowk of Rautahat at around 3:45 pm today.

The injured have been identified as Lal Babu Patel (45) and Mohammad Mairuddin (39) of Gaur-7 and Akulawa-7 of Rautahat respectively.

Mairuddin is a member of the Bhojpura State Committee.

According to Dr Prabin Jha of the District Hospital, Rautahat, the condition of Patel is critical.

He said that the bullet had pierced his abdomen.

Both the injured have been referred to the Narayani Sub-Regional Hospital in Birgunj for treatment, Jha informed.

Chief District Officer Madan Bhujel said that the police personnel were compelled to open fire after the agitation took an ugly turn.

He informed that the security personnel fired around 30 rounds of bullets to take the situation under control.

Meanwhile, the local administration has lifted the curfew in Rautahat from 7 pm today.

Tension grips Kabir Chowk of Rautahat as protesters clash with police personnel

RAUTAHAT: Tension ran high in Kabir Chowk of Rautahat after a clash ensued between demonstrators and police personnel on Sunday afternoon.

According to the District Police Office, Rautahat, police fired seven rounds of bullets in the air and lobbed more than eight rounds of tear gas shells to disperse the mob.

Police said that no one was injured in the clash so far.
