Tension runs high in Janakpur, two protesters killed in police firing

JANAKPURDHAM: Violent clashes have erupted in Janakpur of Dhanusha district as hundreds of cadres and supporters of the United Democratic Madhesi Front took to the streets defying curfew on Friday.

At least two protesters lost their life in the police action at Mills Area.

A teenager, identified as Neetu Yadav of Jamuniya, and another man, Sanjaya Chaudhary of Sireshwar Municipality,were fatally shot at by the security personnel.

Yadav died on the spot, while Chaudhary, who is said to be local leader of Sadbhawana Party, was rushed to the Janakpur Zonal Hospital for treatment where he breathed his last this afternoon.

More than 50 protesters who were injured in clashes or police action at different places of Janakpur have been brought to the Zonal Hospital for treatment.

Tension has run high at Pindali Chowk and Mills Area among other places.

Meanwhile, a protester who was injured in police action in Janakpurdham on Wednesday breathed his last at the Kathmandu-based Norvic Hospital today.

The person has been identified as Birendra Bichhya.
