UDMF inducts three more Madhesi parties

These three parties are the constituents of Federal Inclusive Madhesi Alliance

Kathmandu, February 12

The agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front today inducted three more parties  National Madhes Socialist Party, Nepal Sadbhawana Party and Madhesi Janadhikar Forum- Republican  into it.

These three parties are the constituents of the Federal Inclusive Madhesi Alliance. Another constituent of the FIMA Jay Prakash Prasad Gupta-led Tarai Madhes National Campaign, however, was not inducted into the front.

According to UDMF leaders, the front decided not to induct Gupta-led TMNP mainly because it is not a political party yet.

With the entry of three more parties in the UDMF, it has now become a front of seven political parties.

Upendra Yadav-led Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal, Mahantha Thakur-led Tarai Madhes Democratic Party, Rajendra Mahato-led Sadbhawana Party and Mahendra Ray Yadav-led Tarai Madhes Sadbhawana Party-Nepal are the other constituents of the front.

The front today issued a statement saying the expansion of the front was done with a view of taking the current agitation to a logical end.

All the chiefs of the UDMF constituents have signed the statement except TMSP-N chief Mahendra Ray Yadav. Senior leader of TMSP-N Ram Naresh Ray signed the statement on behalf of his party.

The UDMF has been agitating against ‘discriminatory provisions’ of the constitution.

According to MJF-R Chair Rajkishor Yadav, FSF-N Chair Upendra Yadav told the meeting of the front that the induction of three more parties into the UDMF would be marked as a significant step as it would provide more strength to their ongoing agitation.

Rajkishor said today’s meeting formally endorsed the induction of the three parties, while the next meeting of the front would discuss future agitation strategies.

SP Chair Rajendra Mahato said he told the meeting that the UDMF should try its best to collaborate or forge a working alliance with all the forces that are fighting for the rights of Madhesis and Tharus.

He suggested that the UDMF forge some sort of working alliance with the Tharuhat/Tharuwan joint struggle committee and Tharu Kalyankarini Sabha, which are fighting for the rights of the Tharu community.

Mahato, who was warned by the UDMF not to make controversial statements against the agitation a few days ago, said he told the leaders that the front should set the rules of conduct for UDMF leaders.

Mahato was warned by the chiefs of three UDMF constituents not to issue controversial statements on Madhes agitation.

His statement in Biratnagar a few days ago that the UDMF should either blockade all the border entry points or should not blockade any entry point at all had irked other leaders of the UDMF.
