UDMF to intensify protest, warns of blockade of highways and border entry points

RAJBIRAJ/KATHMANDU: The agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) on Wednesday said it would intensify protests and concentrate its focus on highways and entry points along the India-Nepal border.

After a meeting of the constituent parties Federal Socialist From-Nepal (FSF-N), Tarai Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP), Sadbhawana Party (SP) and Tarai Madhes Sadbhawana Party (TMSP), the UDMF made seven decisions of their two-day meeting public, in Rajbiraj, the district headquarters of Saptari, today.

The parties have warned that they would block highways, government offices, customs offices, banks and financial institutions in the Tarai region.

Likewise, the UDMF warned of filing cases against the state at the Supreme Court of Nepal and the International Criminal Court for its involvement in human rights violation and crimes against humanity during protests.

Meanwhile, the UDMF formed a four-member team to coordinate with other parties and organisations for the protests. The team includes FSF-N’s Rajendra Prasad Shrestha, TMDP’s Govinda Chaudhary, SP’s Manish Kumar Suman and TMSP’s Ram Naresh Raya Yadav.

The Front has demanded that the government should withdraw the army, implement the past agreements, declare those killed during the protest martyrs and provide treatment to those injured in order to create an environment for talks.
