VDC secretaries halt work in Jhapa

Jhapa, February 1

Service seekers were compelled to return to their houses without getting their work done in the VDC offices after VDC secretaries started a protest in all the VDC offices of Jhapa district from today.

The government employees halted work after Federal Affairs and the Ministry for Local Development paid no attention to the seven-point demand put forward by the VDC Secretary Welfare Protection Centre Nepal.

The locals could not get even minor work done due to the protest at the VDC offices of the district.

Chairman Sudarsan Baral of VDC Secretary Welfare Protection Centre Nepal, along with 33 VDC secretaries of the district, also staged a sit-in protest at the District Development Committee Office, Jhapa, today. They also collected the stamps of their VDC offices and handed them over to Local Development Officer Khem Raj Ojha today.

According to the seven-point demand, the VDC secretaries have sought motivational allowance according to their work performance, which was also approved by the government. They have also demanded one representative from the VDC Secretary Welfare Protection Centre Nepal and sought promotion of one level when deputed to the province.

“Daily work will be halted as per the VDC Secretary Welfare Protection Centre Nepal’s direction if the concerned authority does not address our demands,” said Secretary Madan Kumar Kandel of the VDC Secretary Welfare Protection Centre Nepal.
