Let’s stop blaming: Start building

To command public respect, parties should be industrious in assuring economic development, causing social transformation, poverty alleviation, detaining corruption, terminating terror and ending unemployment

Following the promulgation of the republican constitution from the historic Constituent Assembly, the nation had expected the onset of overall positive progress.

Full-swing political, economic and social reconfigurations were the people’s expectations. Nonetheless, despite high-sounding speeches by leaders, the ongoing unsolicited bickering is spoiling sweet dreams and leaving the masses grossly discontented.

In the politicians’ priority, impolitic power-game has got priority over people’s needs.

However, national consensus is stressed by all parties for implementation of the constitution. Though urged for consensus, the acute and stark remonstration is the usual practice.

Recriminating in public functions and discriminating in behaviors unmask the stark reality.

An old English dictionary defines a parliament as a gathering of owls, in one of its meanings. Karl Marx often said the institution was the bourgeoisie’s tea shop for arrogant chitchat. Our politics is somehow simulating this.

Nonetheless every party brags of struggling to emancipate people and the nation to prosper. Still their perception of a nation is similar to one French dictator Luis XIV, who claimed that ‘the state is I and I am the state’.

Therefore, most of the leaders’ time is consumed in either bagging about their own selfishness or blaming others, brushing aside the real needs of people.

Our political parties are endlessly busy blaming others. Ridiculing others precedes commanding respect.

The redoubtable neo-Marxist thinker Noam Chomsky severely objects to the trend of ‘clan’s clout’ and ‘recrimination mania’, which are profuse in South Asian politics.

This is emasculating politics day and night. Doubting progress and prosperity from old types of parties and ideologies, Dr. Bhattarai formed a new party; nonetheless it has neither demonstrated itself as different nor has it denied the culture of defaming the rest over developing the self.

Rather than tagging some forces as arch enemies and declaring war against them, reforming self and endeavoring for the better welfare of society cum citizen is the need of the hour. The politics of making radical speeches will not be helpful in bagging success.

In contrast to the orthodoxically obstinate argument, the people need small works, which help them in life. Now the politicians of the nation ought to learn a lot from decent world practices.

Margaret Thatcher never carried guns. Her programmes concentrated more on facilitating people than forcing objection against others. Kofi Annan gained fame with actions aiming to modify the UN.

Reagan didn’t tag anyone as an enemy but offered good programmes and the nation was in his favor. The opposition was weak during his time. Politics was used to assure peace, prosperity, rule of law, financial development, governance and betterment over battle and altercations.

Citizens’ value works over words. Rather than verbose manifestos and oral explanations, actions are needed.

Provided good programmes are offered, competition at national level among parties and being dead against each other to emasculate the rest are not needed.

Leaders, who caused vast economic and social reconfiguration of nations, always delved into own progress than deploring others’ plans. Vladimir Putin is repeatedly being elected as president and prime minister.

Compelling the US senate to amend presidential provisions, Roosevelt became US president four times. Any sorts of actions carried by Li Quan, Mahathir Bin Mohammad were accepted and deeply respected by the people.

Malaysia, which was a least developed country like Nepal is going to be a developed nation by 2020. Actions aimed at promoting civil life and accelerating positive progress were their focus. Our leaders are busy blaming others doing little to build self better.

To command public respect, parties should be industrious in assuring economic development, causing social transformation, poverty alleviation, detaining corruption, terminating terror, ending unemployment and creating sound plans for them.

These functions should be continued irrespective of changes in the government. Such praxis called consensus democracy best civilizes politics. Countries like Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, Sweden regard it as a uniquely noble political culture.

Author A. Lizpert in his book Pattern of Democracy calls it the most prestigious attribute of democracy. In such a situation, a maximum number of people participate in politics. Splitting on basis of parties in order to do good and bad will diminish.

Everybody assimilates good sense. And development activities continue sans deviation. Despite change of the government, consistent continuity will be on policies and programmes.

But our leaders collect satisfaction by castigating others. Shamelessly, still some parties roar for violence for progress. Now reformation over revolution is the need. Good programmes are to be brought for people.

Rather than criticizing others constructing self is must.

For defeating opponents, parties should take the favor from people with honesty and dedication to them through both the principle and practice rather than objecting to them. Provided these are done, half of the problems will be solved.
