Laxmi Bank Open Golf on Saturday

Kathmandu, November 5

The sixth edition of the Laxmi Bank Open Golf Tournament is slated for Saturday at the Gokarna Golf Club.

More than 100 golfers are expected to take part in the tournament which will be played under stableford ¾ handicap format, informed the organisers at a press meet today. “The tournament is one of the prestigious events in golfing calendar and we have already received overwhelming response from the golfers,” said Senior Golf Director at Gokarna Golf Club Deepak Acharya.

The tournament features six categories — men, women, gross, senior, junior and guest, and the organisers have kept Hyundai Kona as a prize for Hole-in-One on the par-3 10th hole, apart from other field prizes in longest drive, closest-to-the-pin and most birdies. “It’s an open tournament and any one with legal handicap can participate in the event,” said Acharya.

“The event is getting better every year and we have some exciting prizes to be won this Saturday,” he added.

Laxmi Bank CEO Ajaya Bikram Shah said the tournament’s main objective was to help in promoting the sport. “We started the event six years ago with the aim of promoting golf as there were few tournaments at that time. Today, the scenario is different and there are lots of golfing events,” said Shah. “We can promote tourism through the sport as Nepal is the only country where we can play golf throughout the year,” he added.
