NNIPA to honour Rokaya

Kathmandu, February 27

Nepal National and International Players Association is set to honour Olympian Hari Bahadur Rokaya with the Gajaraj Joshi Memorial Ideal Sports Personality Award on Tuesday.

The Guinness World Record holder Rokaya will be honoured with cash prize of

Rs 25,000 and letter of appreciation during the Player of the Year Award ceremony,

informed NNIPA President Deepak Bista at a press meet today.

Rokaya, who run marathon during the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992, set world record timing during the Everest Marathon, the highest altitude marathon in the world. He had clocked three hours, 50 minutes and 23 seconds in 2000.

NNIPA will also honour 22 players from various sports disciplines during the ceremony. The winners will receive Rs 10,000 each — Rs 5,000 from NNIPA and same amount of money from their respective associations. “We will honour the players as per the recommendation from the national associations,” Bista added.
