School building constructed with Indian assistance inaugurated in Gorkha

A school building constructed with assistance from the Government of India has been inaugurated in Gorkha district.

The new building of Shree Himalaya Secondary School in Shahid Lakhan Rural Municipality-6 at Ghairung in the district was built with the Indian government's financial assistance of NRs 43.31 million.

The building was jointly inaugurated today by Head of Administration at Embassy of India Karun Bansal, representatives from District Coordination Committee at Gorkha, the School Management Committee and other local representatives.

According to a press release issued by the embassy, the school building that was constructed with Government of India's grant under 'Nepal-Bharat Development Cooperation' has three floors and consists of 18 class rooms, a science lab, one room each for administration, teachers and principal, and separate sanitation facilities for girls and boys.

The project was taken up as a High Impact Community Development Project as per the agreement between the Government of India and the Government of Nepal.

'India has taken up over 520 HICDPs in Nepal and has completed 446 projects, of which 50 are in Province 4 including 7 in Gorkha District, among others. Likewise, the Embassy of India has gifted 12 ambulances to various health posts and NGOs in Gorkha District.

The school was established in 1960 and was upgraded subsequently in 2010 to Secondary School. Of the 250 students, more than 60 per cent are girls. The newly built infrastructure is expected to boost the learning environment for the students.
