214 more deaths recorded as Nepal's Covid caseload increases by 9,198 on Monday

Active cases spike to 113,480, total deaths reach 5,215 as total nationwide infection count rides up to 464,218

KATHMANDU, MAY 17

Nepal on Monday registered 214 fatalities due to Covid-19 and 9,198 fresh cases, taking the death toll to 5,215 and nationwide total infection count to 464,218, the Health Ministry said.

Meanwhile, antigen tests confirmed 49 positive cases in the past 24 hours. As such, total infections from both RT-PCR and antigen tests added up to 9,247.

The capital city recorded 2,346 infections, Lalitpur 454 cases, and Bhaktapur 298 cases today, taking the valley's total 24-hour figure to 3,098.

According to the health ministry, 22,087 total tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, of which 21,653 were PCR tests while 434 were antigen tests. With this, a total of 2,792,673 PCR tests have been carried out in Nepal till date.

Likewise, 5,767 people who were earlier infected with the virus have been discharged in the past 24 hours as per the latest data provided by the health ministry. As of today, 345,523 individuals have recovered from the novel coronavirus infection. The recovery rate from the disease stands at 74.4 per cent.

Nepal's active Covid-19 case count currently stands at 113,480.

Currently, there are 708 individuals in various quarantine facilities across Nepal.

On Sunday, Nepal's coronavirus case count reached 455,020 with 7,316 newly confirmed cases.

Globally, over 163 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus while 3.3 million people have lost their lives to the disease. Likewise, over 142 million people have recovered while more than 18 million cases are still active.
