KATHMANDU, MAY 28

The Government of Nepal today unveiled the budget for fiscal year 2021/22, today.

Here are some of the highlights of the budget that is currently being announced by Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel from Singhadurbar:

- Senior Citizens Allowance increased from Rs 3000 to Rs 4,000

- All social security allowances hiked by 33 percent

- Prime Minister Employment Programme to continue. 200,000 jobs to be created

- Children's Paradise In Damak, Jhapa

- Senior Citizens Home to be set up in Gothatar, Ktm

- Targeted programs to be launched for income generation for women belonging to deprived communities

- Rs 1 billion allocated for social security allowance

- Rs 400m allocated for skill development training

- Government to buy agricultural produce of farmers, Rs 7.60b allocated for concessional farmer-loans

- Free visas to tourists for a month in a bid to promote tourism

- GPS tracking system in all trekking routes

- Hotels that have shut down to be used as isolation centers, with government incentives

- Integrated Tourism Promotion Program to be launched

- 20% off on purchase of rice, sugar, LPG, salt, flour, lentils, cooking oil from Food Management and Trading Company Limited and Salt Trading Corporation during prohibition period.

- Households consuming up to 20 units of electricity to be waived charges, 50% off on households using up to 50 units

- Rs 12b to be allocated for installation of chemical fertilizer plants

- Rs 45.09b for agriculture sector

- Mero Kitta to be used across the country for for digital land registration and transfer of land ownership

- Poverty Alleviation Fund to be discontinued

- Light petrol vehicles to be displaced by electric vehicles by 2088

- 'Made in Nepal, Make in Nepal' campaign to be launched

- Plastic bags less than 40 microns to be banned from next fiscal

- Water from Himalayan region to be exported

- Grant based on merit to be provided to students
