KATHMANDU, JULY 5

The ten-member taskforce formed to resolve issues between warring factions of the ruling CPN-UML, and to unify the has been revived.

The taskforce was laid to rest after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's move to dissolve the House of Representatives in May.

Soon after its revival, the unit comprising five members each from KP Oli faction and Madhav Nepal faction has commenced a meeting at Singha Durbar to further discuss issues and to reach a consensus.

In a dramatic turn of events, following the issuance of a deadline by party chair Oli to the rival faction to withdraw their signatures backing opposition leader Sher Bahadur Deuba's claim to premiership, party leader Bhim Rawal, a staunch critic of Oli, had held a long one-on-one with the former late on Sunday night.

It has been learnt that Oli had repeated his stance on signatures, the deadline of which was due to expire today, as the bottomline to form ground for a possible consensus.

Nepal faction, however, has been adamant on not taking back the signatures.

After leaders from both the factions were active throughout on Monday, the dormant taskforce finally sprang to life and met up for discussions.

It is now to be seen whether the group resolves all withstanding differences, or if things go back to square one, as they have done repeatedly, in the recent past.
