KATHMANDU, AUGUST 18
Mahanta Thakur on Wednesday has registered a new political party at the Election Commission (EC) under the name Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal (Democratic).
Thakur-led JSP (Democratic) has also formed a 24-member Central working committee under the chairmanship of Mahanta Thakur while mentioning Rajendra Mahato as the party's senior leader.
The newly formed party has chosen bicycle as its electoral symbol.
President Bidhya Devi Bhandari today issued the ordinance to make amendments to the Political Party Act 2017 acting on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers, following which Thakur moved to EC to validate his new party.
Earlier, Thakur had lost the legal battle seeking to legitimise his faction of the Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal resultant to feud between his group and co-chair Upendra Yadav's side.
