DHANGADHI, DECEMBER 12
A person died after he was attacked by an elephant in Laljhadi Rural Municipality-6 of Kanchanpur on Saturday night.
Khagiraj Rana (45) of Dhakka Camp was injured as the wild animal destroyed his hut inside the camp last night, informed Reserve Struggle Committee chair Hira Singh Bhandari. He was living in the camp with his wife, daughter-in-law and grandchildren.
Rana, who was critically injured, died en route to a hospital in Belauri, according to Bhandari.
Everyone in the family apparently ran to safety as soon as they heard the elephant approaching. 'However, during his escape, Rana's leg got hurt by the elephant.'
Twenty additional huts in the camp were also demolished by the herd.
Over 15 elephants had entered the camp at around 8:00 pm last night from Shuklaphanta National Park, claimed Bhandari.
After residents gathered and made noises, the herd reportedly retreated to the park.
The animals also destroyed locals' houses in Dunga of Laljhadi Rural Municipality along with the camp, ward chair Phularam Chaudhary informed. Locals are in a state of panic after the elephants entered the settlement and started causing human damage, Chaudhary added.
