KATHMANDU, December 31

Most parts of the country have been blanketed by thick fog today, thereby erasing the earlier forecast of clear skies by Friday morning, after days of persistent cloudy weather.

Areas including Kathmandu valley and Tarai regions have been covered in thick fog since this morning.

Meteorological Forecasting Divison (MFD) stated in its bulletin that the country is experiencing impacts of western low pressure system, and another system that is developing in eastern side of Northern state of India along with Bihar and its neighbourhood.

According to India Meteorological Department, there is very dense to moderate fog observed over areas of Northwestern areas of Madhya Pradesh of India, Uttar Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh and East Uttar Pradesh, as well.

In Nepal, MFD has issued a forecast that the weather will remain partly cloudy throughout the country today. It has predicted snowfall in high mountainous and hilly areas of Gandaki Province, Province 1 in the day, and one or two areas of Bagmati Province later tonight.

Similalry, there is a chance of snowfall in Gandaki and Karnali Provinces on Saturday.

Domestic and international flights have been disrupted due to the aforementioned weather conditions in the country.

While many regular flights have been unable to take off, international passenger aircrafts that were scheduled to make a landing have not been able to do so owing to poor visibility. While some of the flights are hovering over the Kathmandu skies, a few have made a turn towards India.
