Kathmandu valley receives rainfall since Tuesday night, snowfall in surrounding areas

Many parts of the country are currently witnessing pouring rain that started Tuesday night, while some highly elevated lands are seeing snowfall today.
In Kathmandu valley, places like Chandragiri, Pulchoki, Kalinchowk witnessed snowfall while other areas are experiencing persistent rain.
According to Binod Pokharel, a climate scientist at Utah University, the rainfall will persist throughout the day today. There might be a short pause in between, but it will start pouring again, he said.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Forecasting Division shared that the weather today, till the night, is going to be partly to generally cloudy throughout Nepal with light to moderate rain at many places across the country and chances of light to moderate snowfall at many places of the high mountainous region.
This weather system will remain as it is till Thursday morning, it said.
Total precipitation of 10-20 mm had been forecast for valleys and Tarai regions while more than 50 mm of rains will be experienced in higher elevation areas.
The realtime data from bipad portal (at 11:15 am) shows an accumulation of 35.6 mm rainfall in last 12 hours and 37.2 mm of rainfall in last 24 hours in Barpak station of Narayani basin. This is the highest accumulation recorded amongst the all other stations.
Similarly, there is an accumulation of 28.9 mm rainfall recorded at Syangboche airport; tier 3 station of Koshi basin.
In Mahakali basin, the total accumulation over last 12 hours is 25.4 mm; 21,2 mm in Khokana, 20.8 mm Kirtipur, 20.2 mm in Nagarkot, 20 mm in Khumaltar stations of Bagmati basin.
