Bajura youth gets life sentence for murder

BAJURA, FEBRUARY 2

A youth, who had raped a woman, impregnated her, and got the baby born out of the rape killed in Bajura, has been sentenced to life imprisonment.

Dipayal High Court handed down life imprisonment to Bajura's Raj Kumar Baduwal for murdering the baby born out of rape. He was charged of abusing his relative. The woman who was pregnant from the rape had given birth to a child.

According to the victim's side, Raj Kumar had been pressuring her to kill the baby ever since it was born. Following intense pressure, the woman had poisoned her 34-day old baby and killed it.

Though Bajura District Court gave a clean chit to Raj Kumar, on Tuesday, the High Court convicted him.

A joint bench of acting Chief Judge Tek Narayan Kunwar and Judge Jagat Bahadur Thapa of the High Court gave the verdict.

The court, however, has upheld the four-year prison sentence of District Court, Bajura, against the mother who was involved in killing her child.

Similarly, another woman who had helped in the murder by bringing poisonous herbs has been sentenced to six months in prison.
