Hopes of finding Khudam Bir Tamang, the climbing guide who had gone missing below Camp I in Lhotse, are diminishing as the searches carried out so far have concluded without substantial progress.

Tamang, who was deployed to support South Korean's Lhotse South Face expedition was reportedly swept by an avalanche near Camp I while returning to the base camp.

Expedition organiser Seven Summit Treks had carried out aerial search by sending a helicopter to expedite the search, as well as conducted ground searches, unfortunately to no avail.

The incident occurred when Tamang, a resident of Khotang district, and his fellow Sherpa climber were returning from the high camp.

The fellow climber who witnessed the scene described that Tamang was perished by an avalanche at around 6,000m when he was descending to the base camp, base camp sources added.

Tamang was a part the eight-member expedition led by renowned Korean climber Sung-Taek Hong.
