Tamang, Sherpa, win National Golf C'ship

Subash Tamang and Pratima Sherpa won the titles of the National Golf Championship here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.
The 13th South Asian Games double gold medallist, Tamang carded five-under 67 in the third and final round to finish first in U-21 boys' section with the total score of 18-under 198. He recorded a 17-stroke victory over Sadbhav Acharya, who played three-over 75 today for the total score of one-under 215.
Tamang carded three-under 33 on the front nine with the help of birdies on the second, third and seventh holes. He then carded two-under 34 on the latter half. He faced his second bogey of the tournament on the par-3 16th hole against birdies on the 11th, 12th and final holes. After carding bogey-free six-under 66 on the opening day, Tamang faced a lone bogey on his way to playing seven-under 65 in the second round.
Acharya, who began the final day nine strokes behind Tamang, faltered to two-over 38 on the front nine before playing one-over 37 on the back nine. He dropped shots on the seventh and eighth holes before taking the turn.
He then carded birdies on the 11th and 14th holes before facing a double bogey on the next and dropped a shot on the final hole.
Acharya won the U-16 section title, while Shayan Basnyat was a distant second with the score of 286. In the U-16 girls' section, Aaiesteena Tandan won the trophy with the total score of 321, whereas Soni Tamang was second at 355.
Pratima Sherpa played three-over 75 in the final round and finished first in women's category with the 54-hole total score of nineover 225. Kashmira Shah was a distant second at 23-over 239 after she shot nine-over 81 in the third round.
Sherpa, who came to Nepal from United States to participate in the tournament, played three-over 39 on the front nine and carded even-par 36 on the latter half. She began the day with a bogey and dropped shots on the seventh, eighth and ninth holes against a lone birdie on the third. After taking the turn, Sherpa carded birdies on the 10th and 13th holes but faced a double bogey on the 15th hole.
A total of 29 golfers - 14 boys and 15 girls - took part in the world ranking tournament organised by Nepal Golf Association to mark the Olympic Day. The tournament was supported by National Sports Council, Nepal Olympic Committee, R&A and Gokarna Forest Resort.
NGA President Tashi Ghale, General Secretary CB Bhnadari, Treasurer Kishan Agrawal and NOC Member Ramesh Shiwakoti handed over prizes to the winners.
