Subash Tamang and Pratima Sherpa maintained their after the second round of the National Golf Championship here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.
The 13th South Asian Games double gold medallist, Tamang carded seven-under 65 to post the 36- hole total of 13-under 131 in the U-21 boys' section.
Tamang opened up a ninestroke lead over Sadbhav Acharya going into the final round. Acharya played oneover 73 for the total score of four-under 140. Kishan Pariyar, who shot 11-over 83, was a distant third at 27-over 171. Ranadeep Thapa (85) and Prakrit Tamang (95) are in top five.
Tamang carded two-under 34 on the front nine before firing a bogey-free five-under 31 on the latter half. He faced his first bogey of the tournament on the second hole, and carded birdies on the third, seventh and ninth before taking the turn. Tamang then carded three straight birdies from the 10th and added two more on the 15th and 18th holes.
Acharya shot two-over 38 on the front nine after he suffered a double-bogey on the eighth hole. He bounced back with one-under 35 on the latter half. Acharya carded birdies on the 11th, 12th, and 15th holes but he faced bogeys on the final two holes. In women's section, Sherpa extended her lead despite playing six-over 78 today. The internationally-recognised golfer, Sherpa posted six-over 150 with final 18 holes to play. She remained eight strokes ahead of Kashmira Shah, who shot second straight seven-over 79 for the 36-hole total of 14- over 158. Sushma Sigdel, Tara Karki Chitrakar and Prativa Rai are in top five.
Sherpa shot two-over 38 on the front nine before playing four-over 40 on the back nine. She made a flying start with a birdie but faced a double bogey on the fourth and dropped a shot on the eighth hole. After taking the turn, Sherpa dropped four shots in three holes - a double bogey on the 14th and bogeys on the 13th and 15 holes.
Shah faltered to six-over 42 on the back nine after taking the turn at one-over 37.
She dropped shots on the first and fifth holes against a birdie on the third. On the back nine, she faced bogeys on the 10th, 13th, 16th and 17th and suffered a double bogey on the 12th hole.
A total of 21 players - 10 boys and 11 girls - made the cut for the final round. The world ranking event is organised by Nepal Golf Association with support from National Sports Council, Nepal Olympic Committee, R&A and Gokarna Forest Resort.
