The Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers' Association (FeNeGoSiDA) has warned all concerned to be alert as there are increasing cases of scammers trying to sell fake jewellery in various cities across the country, including Kathmandu.

According to Mohan Kaji Shakya, acting president of FeNeGoSiDA, the scammers were reported to be trading counterfeit jewellery by using phony bills from fake shops.

'It has been found that such a gang has set up a fake shop and is issuing fake bills stating the counterfeit jewellery are real,' Shakya said.

Following the reports of the scams, a delegation of jewellery traders based in Lalitpur had visited the federation urging it to apprise this issue among all gold and silver traders and consumers.

Dharama Sundar Bajracharya, general secretary of FeNeGoSiDA, said that the federation has received information about such gangs being active in illegal trade and circulated notices across the country notifying the general traders and consumers to avoid such scams.

'It has come to our notice that they had been trying to sell fake jewellery in various locations, including Banepa and Gongabu claiming to be members of Lalitpur branch of FeNeGoSiDA,' he said.
