KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 5

The Election Commission has finished counting all the first-past-the-post ballot papers and is now counting only the proportional representation ballot papers of Bajura constituency.

Spokesperson for Shaligram Sharma Paudel told THT that they expected counting of PR ballot papers would be completed by tomorrow evening.

The EC completed the counting of FPTP as well as PR ballot papers in Dolkha today. Ganga Karki, the CPN-Maoist Centre candidate for the parliamentary seat, won the FPTP election with 36,820 votes. His nearest rival CPN-UML candidate Bal Krishna Siwakoti got 36,505 votes.

Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya said the EC would write to political parties that have won seats under PR system to send the names of their candidates within three days. Thapaliya said parties should send names of their candidates after getting them endorsed by their central committees. 'In the next 8-10 days, we will submit election results to the president,' he added. The process of forming the new government can start only after the EC submits election results to the president.

November 20 parliamentary and provincial elections have produced a hung parliament with the NC emerging as the largest party.
