Hosts Waling FC beat Avenir on penalties

Syangja, January 21

Waling Football Club (senior) defeated Avenir Football Club 4-3 in tiebreaker to win the title of the Waling Gold Cup here today.

The match was decided on penalties after both the teams failed to score in regulation period. Suvash Gurung, Bishwash Shrestha, Tik Raj Gurung and Bisu Thapa scored from the spot for the home team, while skipper Laxman Ruchal missed the shot.

Mbouni Jean, Nguimbous Stephane and Bille Frank Daniel of Avenir FC converted their kicks, while Guini Marie Daniel and Adbou Ramani wasted their shots. Goalkeeper Raja Babu Thapa of Waling FC was named the player of the match. Champions Waling received Rs 500,000, while Avenir got Rs 250,000.

Waling FC dominated the individual awards with Ashish Gurung (defender), Kamal Thapa (midfielder), Tik Raj Gurung (forward), Raja Babu Thapa (goalkeeper) and coach Dilip Thapa winning the honours. Timba Timba of Avenir was highest scorer, while Rupesh Hamal of Waling FC (junior) was named the emerging player. Lisnu FC of Rupandehi won the fair play award.
