Following incidents of businesspersons committing self-immolation, the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) has demanded favourable environment to boost the morale of businessmen.

Issuing a press statement today, CNI has stated that the tragic incident of self-immolation/suicide by businessmen has created an atmosphere of anxiety and despair in the Nepali society and business fraternity.

'At the time when the economy seemed finally on track towards prosperity with mutual effort from the government and the private sector, the recent (suicide) incidents have shocked the concerned stakeholders,' the press statement read.

CNI has mentioned positive steps taken by the Nepal government in recent days such as the revision of capital loan guidance, import exemption, LC margin and interest rate reduction.

From the insurgency to the earthquakes and the COVID pandemic, the private sector had overcome numerous challenges over the years, the confederation has said.

'The private sector of Nepal has a history of triumphing through the most difficult situations.

CNI believes that the private sector will beat this current economic downturn as well,' the press statement read.

CNI has appealed the main stakeholders, including the government, to take integrated initiatives to prevent such incidents from happening again in the future.
