Nepal received 85,444 international tourists in August, a 3.65 per cent decline compared to the 88,680 arrivals recorded during the same month last year.
According to data from the Nepal Tourism Board based on figures from the Department of Immigration, India remained the largest source market, accounting for 26,373 arrivals, or 30.87 per cent of the total arrivals. C
hina was the second-largest source market with 10,304 arrivals, marking a 36.78 per cent increase from 7,533 in August 2025. Tourist arrivals from Sri Lanka also increased by 46.24 per cent to 8,710.
The United States accounted for 6,293 arrivals, followed by Bangladesh with 4,487 and the United Kingdom with 3,476. By region, South Asia recorded the highest number of arrivals at 41,422, followed by other Asian countries with 18,275 and Europe with 10,875.
The Americas recorded 7,473 arrivals, up 2.47 per cent year-on-year. Arrivals from the Middle East rose 6.99 per cent to 1,010, while Africa recorded 338 arrivals, an increase of 4.97 per cent.
Several smaller markets posted strong growth during the month. Arrivals from Russia increased 51.38 per cent to 769, while Ukraine saw an 83.05 per cent rise to 216. Cambodia recorded a 277.78 per cent increase, with 68 arrivals.
Tourist arrivals from Bhutan rose 49.25 per cent to 1,288. Malaysia recorded 1,618 arrivals, up 13.07 per cent, while arrivals from Thailand increased 19.89 per cent to 681.
