Tamang, Acharya land team event gold

Top Nepali amateur golfers Subash Tamang and Sadbhav Acharya won the team event title of the 36th Bangladesh Amateur Golf Championship at the Kurmitola Golf Club in Dhaka today.
The pair of Tamang and Acharya posted the total score of four-over 292 and moved three places up to finish first among 12 teams. Tamang carded a scintillating six-under 66 in the second round, while Acharya played second straight five-over 77. Nepal were at the fourth position on the first day after Tamang (72) and Acharya (77) scored five-over 149.
The 'B' team of Bangladesh, represented by Shafiqul Islam and Md Liton Mondal, finished as runners-up with the score of six-over 294. The overnight leaders slipped to second position after Islam played one-over 73 and Mondal faltered to six-over 78. Two other teams from the host country - A and C - were tied at nine-over 297 and they shared the third position.
A total of 12 teams from nine countries - three teams from Bangladesh, two from Bhutan and one each from Nepal, India, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Pakistan and Indonesia - participated in the team event. This is the second time Nepal won team event gold medal in the Bangladesh Amateur Golf Championship. Sukra Bahadur Rai and Tanka Karki had bagged the title of the 34th edition of the tournament in 2019.
In individual competition, Nepali golfer Tamang opened up six-stroke lead after he produced the card of six-under 66 with the help of seven birdies. Tamang, who played even-par 72 in the first round, posted six-under 138 after 36 holes.
Tamang carded three-under 33 on either half. Starting the day from the 10th tee, Tamang carded three consecutive birdies from the 13th and added another on the 17th hole. His lone bogey of the day came on the 18th hole. On the bogey-free back nine, Tamang carded birdies on the second, third and ninth holes.
Three players - Bangladesh's Snk Abu Bakar Siddik (72), India's Shat Mishra (74) and Australia's Aarav D Shah (74) - shared the second place at even-par 144.
Nepal's Sadbhav Acharya shared the 16th position at 10-over 154. He shot two-over 38 on the front nine and played three-over 39 on the latter half. He carded birdies on the third and seventh but he suffered a double bogey on the second and faced bogeys on the fourth and ninth. After taking the turn, Acharya faced double bogey on the 11th and bogeys on the 10th and 16th holes. His lone birdie of the latter half came on the 17th hole. Cut was applied at 21-over 165 with 50 players making it to the final two rounds.
