Kathmandu, March 5

A two-member golf team on Sunday left for Singapore to participate in the Women's Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship slated for March 9-12 at the Singapore Island Country Club.

Golfer Kashmira Shah will participate in the 72-hole competition in her first international outing. Pratima Sherpa took part in the previous edition of the tournament earlier this year in Nepal's first-ever appearance in the Women's Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship. Lady Captain of Royal Nepal Golf Club Arshiya Banu accompanied Shah to Singapore as manager.

Likewise, a five-member team will leave for Dhaka on Monday to participate in the 36th Bangladesh Amateur Golf Championship to be held at the Kurmitola Golf Club from March 8-11. Golfers Subash Tamang, Sadbhav Acharya,

Tara Karki and Sushma Sigdel will take part in the competition while senior golfer Gopal Chitrakar accompanied the players to Bangladesh as team manager. The tournament will be their first international event for women golfers Karki and Sigdel.

National Sports Council Member Secretary Tanka Lal Ghising, Nepal Golf Association President Tashi Ghale and Royal Nepal Golf Club President Madhukar Yakthumba bade farewell to the teams. NGA Youth Development Director Deepak Acharya, General Secretary CB Bhandari, RNGC Vice-president Rajendra Shrestha and Captain Mithun Rai were also present on the occasion.

NSC Member Secretary Ghising asked the golfers to put in their best performance in the international tournaments.

"You all are representing the country and the people back home will be happy if you perform well. You all have potential of shining in international stage and you just need to focus on your performance," said Ghising.

NGA President Ghale thanked the Member Secretary and NSC for supporting the sport. "After the successful outing in the 13th South Asian Games, the NSC has changed its perception towards golf. We expect more support from the sports' governing body as we are planning to bring home more accolades in the days to come," Ghale said.
