Kathmandu, January 19
The Nepali Army Physical Training and Sports Centre is organising the CoAS Open Marathon and Run for Fun here at the Nepali Army Headquarters on February 11.
The eighth edition of the Marathon features five categories - open marathon, half marathon, 10km race for Nepali Army officers and military attaches, 5km race for Sainik Awasiya Mahavidhyalaya students and 5km walkathon, informed Col Munal Basnet at a press meet.
Out of the total cash purse of Rs 1.20 million, top three athletes in marathon will receive Rs 300,000, Rs 200,000 and Rs 100,000 respectively. Likewise, athletes finishing from fourth to 10th places will get Rs 50,000 to Rs 5,000. Top three athletes in half marathon will receive Rs 75,000, Rs 50,000 and Rs 35,000 respectively, while the winners in other categories will also get cash prizes.
Meanwhile, the Nepali Army announced the sponsorship agreement with Everest Bank for the Tribhuvan Army Club's volleyball teams. Chief of Nepali Army Physical Training and Sports Centre, Col Munal Basnet and Everest Bank deputy General Manager Santosh Kumar Bhattarai exchanged the memorandum of understanding.
As per the agreement, Everest Bank will provide the TAC with one million rupees. "We will utilise the amount to buy team jersey and kits," said Basnet. "The support from corporate sector will boost players' morale apart from helping them raise their standard," he added.
