HETAUDA, AUGUST 13

A convict who escaped Kathmandu's Central Jail, Jagannathdeval, during the Gen-Z movement has been arrested in Makawanpur, police said.

Mekso Lo, 60, of Thaha Municipality-11, Bada Thada, was arrested by a police team deployed from the Area Police Office, Palung, at around 5:23pm on Wednesday.

Lo was serving a 15-year prison sentence and a Rs 500,000 fine after being convicted in an opium smuggling case. He was among the prisoners who fled the Central Jail during the unrest.

According to Makawanpur Police, the fugitive was arrested in Thaha Municipality and handed over to the Central Jail Office, Jagannathdeval, for further action.

Lo had originally been arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau, Kathmandu, on February 1, 2021, with 3 kg of opium, police said.

Makwanpur Police spokesperson DSP Madhab Kafle confirmed the arrest.
