The third edition of the Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup is scheduled for April 30 here at the Gokarna Golf Club.

In all, 80 corporate golfers - invited by the Turkish Airlines - will participate in the Nepal leg of the tournament and the nett section winner will earn berth in the Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup Grand Final slated for December at the Gloria Serenity Resort in Antalya, informed Gokarna Golf Club Senior Golf Director Deepak Acharya at a press meet today.

'We are grateful to Turkish Airlines for bringing back the event to Nepal. This is an important tournament in Nepali golf calendar as it helps in tourism promotion and the winner will get a lavish tour to Turkey,' said Acharya. The tournament was first held in Nepal in 2018 and got postponed after second edition due to coronavirus pandemic.

The event will be played under stableford 3/4 handicap format. Top three players in nett category will receive gold, silver and bronze trophies respectively, while gross category winner will get a trophy. Likewise, the closest-to-the-pin winners in men and women sections will earn trophies.

Turkish Airlines General Manager in Kathmandu Serkan Basar said: 'We are glad to hold this event in Kathmandu, and we hope it becomes a popular part of the sporting calendar here. We were proud to welcome so many competitors to Antalya in 2019, and we look forward to create many more incredible memories in 2023.'

Madhav Acharya and Babu Sherpa were the winners in 2018 and 2019 editions respectively. 'Both of them had oncein-a-lifetime experiences as Turkish Airlines treats its customers with great hospitality,' Acharya added.

The world's largest amateur golf tournament will be played in 85 venues of 57 countries and the winners from all the events will compete in the Grand Final in Antalya.
