NEPSE sees 23-point drop on first trading day of the week; daily turnover at Rs 1.253b

KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 16

On the first trading day of the week, the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) witnessed a notable drop of 23.16 points, marking a 1.23 percent decline, bringing the index down to 1851.43 points.

Additionally, the sensitive index, which evaluates the performance of 'A' class stocks, also saw a 0.94 percent loss, shedding 3.38 points and closing at 355.74 points. The float index, which reflects the performance of actively traded shares, decreased by 1.22 percent, losing 1.58 points to reach 128.43 points.

During the trading session, a total of 4,837,893 units of shares from 284 different companies were exchanged in 69,832 transactions, resulting in a turnover of Rs 1.253 billion. The overall market capitalization reached Rs 2.841 trillion.

For the day, all sub-indices showed declines, with three of them losing over 2 percent. The life insurance index led the decliners with a 2.09 percent loss, followed by the hotels and tourism index with a 2.04 percent decline and the hydropower index with a 2.02 percent loss.

The top losers of the day were Sayapatri Hydropower Limited and Hathway Investment Nepal Limited, both experiencing a significant 10 percent drop. Prabhu Bank Limited Promoters Share took the lead in turnover and volume, with 578,094 units of shares traded for Rs 62,476,893. Meanwhile, Hathway's scrip had the highest number of transactions, with 7,852 trades taking place.
