KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 21

The Supreme Court has requested a written response from the government regarding the rationale behind the ban imposed on the social media platform TikTok.

Following a preliminary hearing today on a writ filed against the decision, the apex court has instructed the government to provide a written explanation within the next ten days.

The order, issued by the single bench of Justice Binod Sharma, mandates the defendant to submit a written response by December 1 and attend a hearing on December 5, as stated by Supreme Court joint-spokesperson Govinda Ghimire.

A total of 10 lawyers, including senior advocate Dinesh Tripathi, have individually filed writ petitions challenging the government's decision in the Supreme Court.

The government's decision to ban TikTok on November 13, citing concerns about social harmony, prompted these legal challenges.
