KATHMANDU, JANUARY 12
Kathmandu Valley residents are set to receive water from the Melamchi Drinking Water Project, which had faced disruptions due to flooding and landslides.
The water supply is expected to resume within the next four days after repair and maintenance efforts.
According to Padam Bahadur Kunwar, the Senior Divisional Engineer at the Melamchi Drinking Water Development Committee, water started flowing to Kathmandu on Wednesday evening in adherence to the agreement made on December 19 between the committee and the construction company.
Kunwar stated, 'Melamchi water will reach the Sundarijal-based water treatment plant within four days, as half of the 27-kilometer tunnel is already filled.' Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited reported that preparations are underway to distribute Melamchi water to Kathmandu Valley residents starting January 15.
Zakki Ahmad Ansari, the Project Director of the Melamchi Drinking Water Development Committee, mentioned that approximately 170 million liters of drinking water are supplied to Kathmandu every day.
