KATHMANDU, JULY 30

Twenty people have been diagnosed with cholera in various parts of the country as of Tuesday.

Dr. Prakash Budhathoki, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, stated that twenty individuals from the Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Kailali districts tested positive for the cholera bacteria.

According to Dr. Budhathoki, the increase in cholera cases in Nepal is attributed to unsafe drinking water, poor ecological hygiene, and the adverse effects on water and sanitation infrastructure caused by flooding and landslides. The disease may have spread due to the consumption of contaminated water following the monsoon rains.

Medical professionals are urging everyone to maintain proper hygiene and ensure the consumption of clean drinking water.

The symptoms of cholera include diarrhea, nausea, dehydration, yellow urine, low blood pressure, and sunken eyes. If individuals exhibiting these symptoms are not treated promptly, up to 50 percent of patients may succumb to the disease, Dr. Budhathoki warned.
