KATHMANDU, AUGUST 27

The death toll from monsoon-induced disasters across the country has reached 208, according to the Nepal Police. These fatalities were recorded from June 10 through Sunday afternoon.

Three people died in the Kathmandu Valley, 29 in Koshi Province, eight in Madhesh Province, and 45 in Bagmati Province, police reported. Gandaki Province recorded 56 fatalities, Lumbini Province 37, Karnali Province 14, and Sudurpaschim Province 16, according to DIG and Nepal Police Spokesperson Dan Bahadur Karki.

DIG Karki further reported that 271 people sustained injuries due to landslides and floods during this period. Among the injured, 11 were in the Kathmandu Valley, 42 in Koshi Province, 12 in Madhesh Province, and 31 in Bagmati Province. Additionally, Gandaki Province reported 47 injuries, Lumbini Province 25, Karnali Province 67, and Sudurpaschim Province 36.

Rescue operations by security agencies saved 215 vulnerable individuals from various locations since the onset of the monsoon this year. However, 153 people remain missing, and search efforts are ongoing, DIG Karki added.

The disasters also caused significant damage, inundating and destroying several infrastructures, including 365 houses, 126 cowsheds, 52 bridges, six schools, and two government office buildings, according to police reports.

Additionally, 972 livestock were lost to floods and landslides, and 6,049 households have been displaced over the past two months.
